At all times, students are required to stay with the group, and not wander out of sight or away from the group.

  • If a student is sick or unwell, please keep them home.

  • If you need to cancel or rearrange, a credit will be given towards another date.

  • Times are tough: can’t pay fully? Contact SASART - artistic creativity shouldn’t be limited by money! Want to help a student and cover a session? Please contact about helping make a opportunity for youth - this can be anonymously. Held in partnership with Mary C. Moore Public Library and SASART.

What will we do in Art Club?

  • These classes are meant to be a way for creative youth to get together in a environment where they can experiment and explore different mediums freely. This is not a step by step “you must create _______ by the end of a session” type of class! :) SASART creates with the group, demonstrating and working with everyone.

  • Mediums that will be introduced include: watercolours, acrylics, gouache, pencil/pen/marker, paper art, mixed medium, chalk art, and more. It is not a requirement that a student follow along step by step - this is a interactive process. Often times this means at the beginning we will all gather together, discuss the medium that SASART chose to bring in for the day, discuss some tips and tricks, or artworks to focus in on while using the medium, and then apply them in our own ways. The group works together and creates their own works while with peers - at the end or during the process comparing, discussing, and looking at eachothers works.

  • Subjects: plants, animals, nature, places, you name it! SASART is freehand so is happy to assist and break down how to draw ____ as students need!

  • Art games: a favourite game that will be carried on into this years art club is a timer based art creating game! Depending on the amount of students, we will choose a five to ten minute period in which to start a artwork, and pass when the time is up. The next person adds to the creation, and so on, until it completes a full circle. The final results are a great way to show how different each artists style, techniques, and artwork can be from eachothers. This is also a great way to encourage new art processes, and go with the flow creations.

What do students need to bring?

  • A multimedia sketchbook, and a pencil/eraser.

  • Any art supplies they typically love to use or have questions about.

  • All other supplies and materials are provided - so if a student does not bring anything that is ok! Typically most like to have the above to help keep track of what they make. Each artist also has a favourite item or medium generally that they are familiar with. SASART always has pencils/erasers/rulers/paintbrushes/etc on hand.

  • If a student bring something like prisma colour pencil crayons, copic markers, tablets, or other expensive art supplies with them please note this is at your own discretion. Sharing is wonderful, but sometimes things can happen no matter how careful another student is! However, all students have always been gracious and kind with sharing, and have always been respectful as they all know it isn’t cheap to replace materials! :)

Rules:

  • Please keep cell phone use to a minimum. This is a time to create and make art! If youth are using their cell and it is to look at a reference, photo, show art they have made, or make digital art using their phone, that is never a issue as long as it is always material that is appropriate and a parent is fine with them using their cell. However with that being said, any reference needed can always be printed off on a library computer.

  • Be kind, respectful, and treat those around you nicely. Profanity is not tolerated. Lets keep our discussions centered around art!

  • All art is art, there is no right or wrong. :) It is not a competition in art club, everyone will have their own skills!

  • If there are any issues that arise, a parent or guardian will be contacted.
